Walking and photographing are fundamental to my artistic process and I very often drop the children at school and then go wandering around Hanley taking pictures. I don't have a good camera. Just a little digital but I'm not a photographer so it just serves it's purpose. My practice is about recording what I see around me and the changes that are taking place through regeneration. Therefore walking around the same area repeatedly over time helps to really take in those changes and I never fail to see something new in these walks. Although terraces are very much a part of me and my practice, the tower blocks in Hanley, at the top of Bucknall New Road are becoming of significance for future work too.
Here are a few of today's snapshots.

love the idea of revisiting. its like my walk that i do to pick up interesting finds. its fascinating to see 'new' in what should be the 'same old same old'. keep that walking going as love the work this produces
Yes isn't it funny how the familiar can feel so dull and yet actually when something is very well known to us it becomes a place to look much deeper and see more than we necessarily do in a new place. For example when you see people's photos from places they've visited, maybe New York or prague for example, a number of different people tend to see the same 'view' or be attracted to the same spots. In a place you know well there's the opportunity to really see so much more and to watch it evolve with time.
I can't wait until all mine are of schoolage..... the possibilities!
Yes it has certainly given me the space to do the things that make me feel like 'Me' again and as a result I actually appreciate my time with the children much more. However if I did it all over again I wouldn't change a thing. Having them at home for their pre-school years was very important to me and offered me the creative space to walk and roam and think. That's how all this began!
